Investment Options & Other Fees*

Prior to applying for Malta citizenship, an investor needs to hold a Malta residence permit for 1-3 years, depending on the size of the intended investment. You can apply after 3 years with an investment of at least €600,000 or after only 1 year with at least €750,000.

In order to qualify for a citizenship, investors need to fulfill three contributions: 1) Purchase or Rent Residential Real Estate; 2) Fulfill Exceptional Direct Investment requirements; 3) a charitable donation to a non-government organization.

Renting a Property €750,000+

To receive a resident permit first, you will need to rent a property in Malta, unless you already have a residential address in Malta. No minimum rental amount is applicable during the first year.

Once you are ready to apply for citizenship based on your intended investment you will have to make a new rental agreement at a minimum of €16,000/year – our quotations offer €9,600 per first 3 years. The property must be rented for at least 5 years and cannot be sublet during that time. Additional contribution fees are outlined below. Citizenship can be obtained within 12 or 36 months.

Instead of renting, Investors may purchase real estate for at least €700,000 and hold it for a period of 5 years. The other requirements, such as Direct Investment and charity donation to an NGO and fees are the same as in the first option.

Eligibility Criteria

In order to qualify to apply for a Malta citizenship, applicants must have: 

  • Clean Criminal Record 
  • Valid Passport (with a minimum validity of six months) 
  • National Identity documents from Country of Birth or Country of Residence 
  • Birth Certificates 
  • Additional Documentation including CVs, Education, and Work History
  • Valid Proof of Address
  • Provide various other numerous documents, such as evidencing the Source of Wealth.

 

Malta allows applicants to include their close family members as dependents on their Citizenship application, subject to conditions. All family members receive their Citizenship Certificates and Passports together.

Eligible Dependents that you can include in an application are: 

  • Spouse, life partner
  • Parents and grandparents of both spouses (subject to conditions)
  • Dependent children up to and including the age of 17
  • Adult children between the ages of 18 to 28 not married, largely dependent on the main applicant

Restrictions: All Nationalities are eligible to apply for Citizenship in Malta except Citizens of Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Iran, North Korea, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Venezuela, and Yemen.

Malta Police Clearance
Certificate (1-2 weeks)
Maltese Police checks all applicants’ history against Interpol and Europol databases. The police issues a clearance certificate if everything is clear.
Receive a Malta Residence
Permit (3-4 weeks)
Depending on your chosen investment option, our team will draw up a rental or sales contract and fill out all other relevant paperwork for the residence permit, medical insurance, and a level 1 due diligence report. After submission of the documents, the authorities will issue a residence permit to you and any family member above 18 years old.
Preparation for the Eligibility
Test (2 weeks)
Within the first 12 months of receiving your residence permit, you and all other applicants will have to undergo an eligibility test. Our team will apply on your behalf
Receive Eligibility Approval (4-5 months)
The minister grants approvals for an applicant’s eligibility to apply for citizenship. The approval is conditional to fulfilling the remaining financial obligations.
Application for Citizenship (1-3 years)
Once the necessary period of residency (1 or 3 years) depending on the investment option is complete, you can formally apply for citizenship. Our team will work with you to submit all final documentation. At this stage Maltese authorities will conduct comprehensive due diligence checks and a review of all documentation
Minister Approval in Principle (2-4 weeks)
If all documents are in order, the minister will grant an approval for citizenship. From this point onward, you will have four months to complete the investment obligations.
Fulfillment of Investment (up to 4 months)
You will have four months to fulfill your investment obligation and donation. Our team will ensure that you collect all necessary proof of fulfillment to be submitted to the Malta authority.
Oath of Allegiance (up to 6 months)
Upon receiving the final approval, you and your family members will receive an official invitation to take the oath of allegiance in Malta. This oath must be done in person in the country within 6 months of receiving the letter.
Receive your Malta Passport
After the oath of allegiance, you and your family receive a certificate of naturalization and can pick up your Malta Passport at the relevant department in the country.
